Facebook or Google?

Sharing for Learning

My name is Nellie Deutsch (here’s more about me). I’m an English teacher first, but I wear other hats, too. I’ve been using social networks to connect for learning. I’m interested in online personal connections but not with family or close friends. I prefer my personal life to be private. I only use social networks such as facebook, twitter, google plus, scoopit, pinterest, linkedin and so on for sharing instruction and learning.

Besides being a teacher both online and face-to-face, I also promote instruction and learning because I care about education.  I am  keen on sharing whatever is going to facilitate instruction and learning.  I belong to many groups and organizations such as WAOE and TESOL. I have ongoing online meetings.

Technology is Behind

It’s annoying when technology does not serve my needs. I have had so many bandwidth issues even with my  super fast Internet connections when I use SKYPE and the Hangouts on Google plus. My system freezes with both both programs. The worst part in having technology issues is not having direct support.

Video Conferencing with WizIQ

I use WizIQ because I get the support I need and the platform works. My system never freezes during a live online session on WizIQ. I can communicate with my webcam, share files, write on the whiteboard, and chat in the chatbox. I can invite others without their having to sign up for an account and there is not  downloading of anything. Google plus does not offer me what WizIQ does, but  I can share my desktop on WizIQ and enjoy whatever is there on my google plus.

Competition to Improve Instruction and Learning

Competition is great because it forcers organizations to improve their products. One organization that I have been with since 2007 for that very reason is WizIQ. WizIQ has always listened to me. The team at WizIQ is improving education online as I write, because they care and listen to educators.

WizIQ cares about educators and improving learning whether fully online, face-to-face, and blended learning (combining face-to-face and online components). In fact, many don’t grasp it, but WizIQ is now offering free premium accounts to educators because they care and want to hear from educators on their needs in order to improve instruction and learning. They also listen to the community of learners because they want to improve e-learning. You are invited to share your needs for improved online learning.

Facebook or Google?

Now, the competition begins for  social networks. Social networks can be used for personal and professional purposes. The biggest ones are Facebook, Google,, and Twitter. Which ones do you use the most or do you use all 3 to the same extent? If you do, you must be very busy. Wouldn’t it be nice to only use one?

For example, are you going to use Google Plus and its new groups or facebook groups. I’m totally lost. Personally, I may have to abandon Facebook in favor of Google because of google drive. What will facebook offer now that Google’s new platform doesn’t already have?

Google Plus

Google started with google plus, the circles, and now the circles are gaining momentum as you can now create a community. What a great name for a group!!
