The Highly Anticipated Guide to Saving WizIQ Class Recordings for Mac Users

Education & Technology

Class Recordings

One of the awesome features of the WizIQ Virtual Classroom is the class recordings. They can be used in synchronous and asynchronous courses, so they’re a valuable tool for any teacher. A teacher can record their live classes so that if a student is unable to attend, they can see what they missed. In an asynchronous course, the teacher can record themselves giving a lesson and then post it so that all their students can access it and learn at any time. It’s education’s answer to a vlog. Pretty fantastic, right?

Unfortunately, it can be a bit tricky to figure out the technology and a lot of you have been asking how to save the zip file recordings to your Mac. Fortunately, WizIQ has come to the rescue with a handy step-by-step guide on How to Download and Play Class Recordings on a Mac. It’s a bit of a process, but in the end, it will be worth it to enhance your learning experience and make sure you and your students don’t miss a thing, whether you’re Mac or PC users!

Creating a WizIQ Folder as a Trusted Location

Before you can start saving recordings, you need to create a folder and list it as a “Trusted Location,” or else your recordings won’t play after you save them. Luckily, you only need to do this once; after it’s created, it will be available for you any time you need to save a recording.

First, create a new folder titled “WizIQ” wherever you want it saved on your Mac. This is where you will save all your WizIQ recordings from now on.

To list it as a Trusted Location, follow these steps:

  • Click the Apple logo at the top navigation bar and go to System Preferences.
  • Click the Flash Player icon in the “Other” category.
  • Go to the “Advanced” tab and scroll down until you get to the “Trusted Location Settings…” button. Click it.
  • There should be a + symbol in the bottom lefthand corner of the window that pops up. Click that.
  • Find the “WizIQ” folder that you just created, select it, and click “Open.”

It sounds more complicated than it is. Basically, it’s just a lot of clicking and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. When you’re done, you can close all of your windows and you’ll never have to think about it again. Simple stuff!

Downloading and Saving Recordings

Now that you’ve got your trusty WizIQ folder, you’re free to download and save recordings until your little heart’s content! So how do you do it?

To access your recordings, login to your WizIQ account, click the “My Stuff” drop down menu and click “My Classes.” Click “Past Classes,” which is located in the left panel. This will bring you to a list of all your classes, which should each have a “Download recording” button next to them. Click the “Download recording” button, select “Download here” in the pop-up, and save the file to the WizIQ folder you created earlier.

To play the recording, you must first unzip it, which takes a simple double-click to the zip file. After it’s unzipped, you double-click the Player.html file and the recording will start playing in Safari.

Pretty simple, right?

It may sound like a lot of steps now, but once you do it the first time, downloading class recordings will be second nature. Just click all the right buttons and your recording will be playing in no time!
