Why Is Learning Grammar Important

Have you ever had trouble deciding whether to use ‘who’/ ‘whom’ or ‘effect’/ ‘affect’, while writing?. How about ‘I/Me’?. Have you ever had a moment when you stopped mid-way through a sentence only to wonder whether what you had written was grammatically correct? Take for example the following sentence-

Is it she/her you are looking for?

If you picked ‘her’, you will be astonished to know that you are among those 50% people who chose the same option, but incorrectly. Take for example this seemingly harmless sentence:

Three rooms each has/have a T.V., Refrigerator, and an A.C.

It takes more than a moment, and a lot of confidence, to choose the correct answer. [Let me know what you pick, and why, in comments below.]

People rarely appreciate the importance of having a good command of grammar. Good grammar is a ‘must have’ for everyone. Whether you are applying for a job or a promotion, or running a business online; good grammar means better communication. Clear, crisp and correct communication is what it takes to stand out. Grammar plays a very important role in sending out the right message.

In this era of information over-load it’s difficult to find the best grammatical resources. One way to avoid hours of searching the internet for linguistic resources is to check out curated content especially chosen by leaders in the field.

People desist from working on their grammar mainly because they consider the process to be tedious and boring. There are so many rules to remember and it sometimes seems as if there is little chance of improving. Have you ever had the feeling that there are more questions about grammar than answers? How can you decide what to use and where? How can you be be 100% confident with syntax construction? How can you avoid all the confusion?

Well, fear not, as your troubles may soon be over. With the best resources at hand, your confusion can actually give way to confidence.

Reading is good “Passive” way of improving vocabulary, but when you are resorting to making lists, that is “Active” method. Problem with active method of learning words is that it is cumbersome and boring, and you doing retain and unless you use it in writing sentences to apply the word, very little chance is that you increase your lexical size.

Improve Your Vocabulary – VocabMonk is an active learning tool which is personalized and makes sure you grasp the learnt words by applying it. It is lot of fun too as you can play vocab challenges with your friends.

    Give it a shot!

Three rooms each has/have a T.V., Refrigerator, and an A.C.
